Household hazardous wastes are leftover household products that contain corrosive, ignitable, or reactive ingredients. They of- ten have a “warning” or “flammable” symbol on the label. HHW is found in most homes.
First Steps in Lake County
Before clearing of debris or rebuilding, all lots must be swept for HHW. If you are choosing to clear the debris privately, you must remove HHW first. If you choose to have the county clear your lot, this service is free to all those impacted by the Valley Fire.
Cleaning up HHW
Coordinating with CalRecycle, teams will survey and remove hazardous materials from all burn locations beginning on Wednesday 9/30 and continuing for several weeks. The teams will be wearing white Tyvek suits for protection. They will also be sampling for asbestos.
